On September 25, 2013, the Federal Register published a Notice of Meeting of the Cultural Property Advisory Committee [Public Notice 8480; Docket No. DOS–2013–0020] to be held on November 1, 2013. Additionally, the Government of Honduras has asked that the Memorandum of Understanding Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of Honduras Concerning the Imposition of Import Restrictions on Archaeological Material from the Pre-Columbian Cultures of Honduras (MOU) be amended to include material representing the Colonial and Republican periods of its cultural heritage. An open session to receive oral public comment on the proposal to extend and amend the MOU with Honduras will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, beginning at 10:00 a.m. EDT.
During the closed portion of the meeting, the Committee will conduct an interim review of the Memorandum of Understanding Between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of El Salvador Concerning the Imposition of Import Restrictions on Certain Categories of Archaeological Material from the Pre-Hispanic Cultures of the Republic of El Salvador. Public comment, oral and written, will be invited at a time in the future should this Memorandum of Understanding be proposed for extension. The Committee’s responsibilities are carried out in accordance with provisions of the Convention on Cultural Property Implementation Act (19 U.S.C. 2601 et seq.; the Act). Any person wishing to attend the open session on October 30, 2013, should notify the Cultural Heritage Center of the Department of State at (202) 632–6301 no later than 5:00 p.m. (EDT) October 17, 2013, to arrange for admission. Any person wishing to make an oral presentation at the open session must request to be scheduled by the above-mentioned date and time, and submit written comments, ensuring that they are received no later than October 17, 2013, via the eRulemaking Portal (see the notice for details). |
